This region of lakes, mountains and glaciers is world famous for the Perito Moreno Glacier, a giant ice mass of 258 km2 and 60m high walls. This glacier drains into the Canal de los Témpanos of Lake Argentino and periodically closes it, reaching the Magallanes Peninsula. When this happens, a natural ice dam is formed that dams the waters of the South and Rico branches. The endicada water that manages to rise a few meters above the normal level exerts pressure on the ice barrier that finally breaks giving an incomparable spectacle. There are four areas where the different activities take place.
